Caleb Williams, the rookie quarterback, will not play in the Chicago Bears’ opening preseason game on Thursday night against the Houston Texans.
Williams is expected to play a major role in the final preseason games, though. Williams should see between 45 and 55 snaps in each of the Bears’ next three preseason games, according to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin.
Williams has stated that he believes playing in the preseason is essential to his growth. He thinks that in order to get ready for his first NFL season, he needs to gather experience during these games. He will be able to acclimate to the tempo and rigors of professional football thanks to the chance to play in preseason games.
Williams’ status for the Bears’ next preseason game against the Buffalo Bills and whether or not he will make his preseason debut are still unknown. Williams’ participation in preseason games will provide him with invaluable practice to hone his talents prior to the start of the regular season, even if many players opt to limit their involvement.
For Williams to practice some of the core skills of being a quarterback, including managing the play clock and communicating with his teammates effectively, the preseason reps are extremely crucial. In order for Williams to perform effectively in real games, Cronin brought up his prior experiences with false starts and game delays during practice.
Williams, the number one choice in the 2024 NFL Draft, comes into the league with high expectations after winning the Heisman Trophy and having a great collegiate career. The Bears are hoping that Williams’ presence and play would help the squad turn things around.
The Bears concluded the previous season with a 7-10 record and missed the playoffs for the third straight year. The Bears are confident in their ability to improve their prospects for the upcoming season with Williams leading the attack and a strong supporting cast.
