The Brisbane Lions have made significant moves to improve their standing ahead of the upcoming 2024 Telstra AFL Draft by executing two strategic pick swaps with both Richmond and Carlton. These changes are poised to bolster the Lions’ draft position, offering them a stronger selection pool as they prepare for the future.

In their first transaction, the Lions acquired Richmond’s 2024 Round 2 picks, specifically selections 32 and 42, along with two of the Tigers’ Round 3 picks, numbered 43 and 45. In exchange, Richmond received Brisbane’s Round 1 selection, currently placed at 20. This exchange allows Richmond to secure a higher pick while giving the Lions more flexibility in the mid-to-late rounds of the draft.

Following this, the Lions completed a second pick swap with Carlton, securing the Blues’ 2024 Round 2 selection, which is currently at 34, and a Round 4 pick, numbered 66. In return, Carlton received Brisbane’s own Round 4 pick (73) and a future Round 2 selection for 2025. This deal not only adds depth to Brisbane’s draft hand but also allows Carlton to build for the future.

As it stands, the Brisbane Lions now have a well-rounded set of picks for the 2024 draft, including selections 32, 34, 42, 43, 45, 60, and 66. These strategic maneuvers reflect the club’s commitment to strengthening its roster and enhancing its competitive edge in the AFL landscape.

Overall, these pick swaps illustrate the proactive approach of the Brisbane Lions as they aim to build a robust team through careful draft planning. With an improved draft hand, the Lions are in a prime position to make impactful selections that could shape their future success in the league.
