Brendan Fevola, the celebrated dual Coleman Medallist and a cherished figure at Carlton, is contemplating a future in coaching following an unexpected role with Collingwood’s AFLW team. This experience has reignited his passion for the game, hinting at a potential shift in his career trajectory.
Although deeply tied to Carlton, Fevola accepted an invitation from Collingwood CEO Craig Kelly to join an AFLW training session. This opportunity arose after he made an incorrect on-air comment regarding Kelly’s career moves, which was initially intended as a form of “punishment.” However, the session proved to be a transformative experience for the 43-year-old, marking the first time in over ten years that he had participated in a team training.
Fevola expressed his enthusiasm for the experience during an appearance on Fox FM’s “Fifi, Fev & Nick,” stating, “I truly enjoyed it and felt welcomed. It was like being one of the players again.” His excitement was palpable as he described how the day energized him, remarking, “It really makes me want to pursue coaching.”
In his time with Collingwood, Fevola focused on working with the forwards, sharing insights on forward play and teamwork. He emphasized the importance of creating space and collaboration among players, shedding light on the complexities that come with playing in the forward line. This newfound involvement has rekindled his interest in coaching at a more competitive level, following previous coaching roles at Melton South in the Ballarat Football League.
While Fevola plans to continue his playing career with East Sunbury in 2025, his brief stint at Collingwood has sparked a renewed desire for a coaching role. Though he may always retain his loyalty to Carlton, he is open to future coaching
