Tottenham look set to sell one of their defenders for the right price, and despite playing over 200 times for the club, he has not impressed, nor has he lived up to the hype that came when he signed for the club in 2017.
With 54 caps for his country and only 27, much more was expected of this defender, but it has not worked out as well as it should have.
Davinson Sanchez expected to leave Tottenham
The Colombian Davinson Sanchez is the defender that Daniel Levy and Ange Postecoglou are willing to let leave the club despite appearing in the first game against Brentford. However, the Spurs shipped two goals in that game and never looked defensively sound.
Sanchez joined for a huge fee from Ajax and had all the qualities to become a world-class defender. He is tall, strong, quick and technically very good on the ball. However, at times in a Tottenham shirt, he has been a liability.
Under former manager Mauricio Pochettino, he was an expected starter and even started in the Champions League final against Liverpool.
Sanchez’s stock was so high with Spurs that just one year into his six-year contract, which now seems him contracted to the club until 2024.
Yet with the departure of Pochettino, Sanchez found it hard to really cement a place in the side and live up to expectations that had been placed on him.
Who is interested, and how much would Sanchez cost?
Sanchez is still only 27 and has one year left on his deal, so Levy is keen to recoup some money from the reported £42 million that they spent on him in 2017. As Spurs accepted a bid from Spartak Moscow earlier in the window of £12.9 million, but Sanchez turned it down, they will expect something similar from potential suitors.
The main interest is coming from France, and Monaco are the frontrunners to sign the Colombian international. With Spurs still looking to make more money with the potential move for Nottingham Forest striker Brennan Johnson still very much on the cards, then if Sanchez wants a move to France, then the deal will go ahead.
