Judiciary Report: Appo, Ipape charged; Sergis pleads guilty

Following their Pacific Championships match, forwards Keven Appo of Papua New Guinea and Edwin Ipape of Fiji have been charged with a dangerous throw offense against forward King Vuniyayawa of Fiji.

Both of them participated in the lifting tackle that occurred in Port Moresby on Sunday; nevertheless, Appo was the only player to be thrown off the field and received a Grade 2 charge.

Ipape was accused of committing a Grade 1 offense, which involves a fine of 7% of match fees if he enters an early plea or 10% if he loses in court.

After their Pacific Championships match on Saturday, Kiwi forward Nelson Asofa-Solomona was charged with a Careless High Tackle on Kangaroos skipper James Tedesco.

Asofa-Solomona received a citation for a grade one offense, which entails that if he enters an early guilty plea, he will be fined 7% of his match fees, or 10% of his match fees if he successfully challenges the accusation in court.

But he will participate in the Pacific Championships final against the Kangaroos at FMG Stadium Waikato next week without missing any playing time.

After the Kiwi Ferns shocked Australia, Jillaroos centre Jess Sergis was also charged by the Match Review Committee.

Sergis has been given a warning and accepted the early guilty plea to a Grade One Careless High Tackle on Apii Nicholls.

Ilaisaane Taufa, a forward for Tonga women’s national team, was previously found guilty in court and ordered to miss five games for her hip drop tackle on Kiwi Ferns forward Amelia Pasikala during the Pacific Championships’ second round.
