Tennessee Football, Virginia TRO Request Denied - Sports Illustrated Tennessee Volunteers News, Analysis and More

On3’s Pete Nakosbroke the news on Tuesday afternoon that a federal judge has denied Tennessee’s TRO request. The request would have allowed recruits in Tennessee and Virginia to directly communicate with NIL collectives while they were still in high school.

The NCAA is currently investigating the University of Tennessee for its recruitment of quarterbackNico Iamaleava. There’s been a lot of talk about how the Vols have handled NIL dealings, but the university maintains that they believe no employees broke any rules and that their dealings are consistent with every major program across college football. Athletic director Danny White spoke last week about the standards at Tennessee and how they vehemently disagree with the investigation at its core.

“A federal judge in Tennessee denied a temporary restraining order Tuesday that would allow high school prospects and transfer portal players in two states to communicate with NIL collectives during their recruitment. Judge Clifton L Corker ruled in favor of the NCAAin the Eastern District of Tennessee after attorneys general in Tennessee and Virginia filed an antitrust lawsuit last Wednesday. The decision comes a day before National Signing Day.” – On3’s Pete Nakos
