Noah Shannon, a suspended athlete, will captain the Illinois team in an honorary capacity.

Iowa’s News Now (IOWA CITY, Iowa) — On November 18, when the University of Iowa football team plays Illinois at home in their final home game, suspended lineman Noah Shannon will be the honorary captain.

The all-Big Ten defensive tackle was given a season-long suspension at Iowa for placing a wager on an athletic event other than football.

Over the previous four seasons, Shannon participated in 42 games, starting every game for the Hawkeyes in 2021 and 2022. Out of 107 total stops, he has 11 for loss, 4.5 sacks, two interceptions, and one forced fumble. Additionally, Shannon participated in the previous two Hawkeye bowl games (2022 Music City Bowl; 2022 Citrus Bowl).

The Aurora, Illinois, native was a two-time honorable mention all-conference selection. He earned the team’s Hustle Award (defense) and Hayden Fry Award (defense) as a junior and senior, respectively.
