TOLEDO VS MIAMI UNIVERSITY WHO WILL WIN

Is this the first of two?The two best teams in the MAC should play one of the most interesting games of the weekend, but if all goes according to plan, they should be meeting again in several weeks in the MAC Championship.Toledo has been strangely inconsistent – it worked WAY too hard to get by Ball State – and it needed everything in the bag to get by Northern Illinois despite cranking out well over 500 yards of offense. The defense has been hit-or-miss – especially against midrange passing games – and that’s where Miami University comes in.

The RedHawks have been wonderful defensively – they haven’t allowed more than 303 yards in a game in MAC play – even though they’re not taking the ball away as much as they should considering how great the pass rush is.The offense is well balanced, the passing attack is wildly inconsistent, but strangely effective, and the team has figured out how to win without a lot of drama. It’ll have to fight in this – Toledo’s offense will ramp back up – but the RedHawk D will clamp down in the fourth just as the short passing game starts to bleed the clock.

At some point Appalachian State will play a boring game.It blew out East Carolina, but all the other games against FBS teams have been close, wild, dramatic shootouts. Old Dominion is right there with the last five games all decided by a touchdown or less. This shouldn’t be any different for either side.ODU has a nightmare of a time turning the ball over, and it tends to play up or down to the competition – it battled with both Wake Forest and Texas A&M-Commerce. It has enough of a run defense to keep down the Mountaineers, but the passing attack isn’t sharp enough to keep things going – and those turnovers are a problem.Appalachian State will pull this off in a blast of a battle, but not before it makes things way too hard on itself with turnovers of its own
