How Jamal Murray helps Denver Nuggets avoid new NBA penalty

On Monday morning, a number of sources claimed that the NBA was considering imposing a penalty on clubs who overused load management. The Denver Nuggets may be able to take advantage of a weakness to avoid paying any form of fine this season because to Jamal Murray.

Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that the new rule would penalize teams who rest more than one “star player” throughout a game. A player must have been selected to an All-Star or All-NBA team at some time over the previous three seasons in order to be considered a star.

According to current discussions among team and league personnel, a star is defined as someone who has been selected to an All-Star or All-NBA team in the previous three seasons, according to sources, Charania tweeted.

What protection does Jamal Murray offer the Denver Nuggets from sanctions?
Last season, Murray played in 65 regular-season games for the Nuggets after sitting out the whole 2021–22 season to heal from an ACL tear. His decision to rest after Denver’s arduous ascent to the summit of the NBA this spring prevented him from representing Canada in this summer’s FIBA World Cup.

All of this is significant because he might be a player that needs a little additional rest to be fresh during an 82-game season.

Fortunately, the Nuggets should be able to provide Murray with the necessary break without incurring a fine.

This is why.

Once more, the NBA is taking action against clubs who sit two “star players” during a game. Actually, Murray isn’t a famous person. He has never been selected to an All-Star or All-NBA squad, so if necessary, Denver can rest him with Nikola Jokic.

The only star-eligible member of the Nuggets is Jokic, thus new policy won’t immediately have an impact on them.

But if Murray succeeds in winning one of those awards this year, they’ll have to be more concerned about load control going forward.
