The San Antonio Spurs announced that a player has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2023-24 NBA season.

On Wednesday evening, the San Antonio Spurs will host the Los Angeles Lakers in Texas.

Before the game (on Tuesday), the Spurs announced that Charles Bassey has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2023-24 NBA season.

Via ESPN’s Andrew Lopez: “Spurs say center Charles Bassey tore the ACL in his left knee and will miss the remainder of the season.

Bassey averaged 3.3 points and 4.0 rebounds in 19 games this season while shooting 72.5% from the floor.

Bassey tore his ACL playing with the Austin Spurs on Sunday.”

Bassey was the 53rd pick in the 2021 NBA Draft out of Western Kentucky.

He is in his third season in the NBA (his second with the Spurs) and has also spent time with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The 23-year-old has career averages of 4.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists per contest while shooting 65.8% from the field and 23.1% from the three-point range in 77 regular season games (he also appeared in three NBA playoff games with the 76ers during the 2022 season).

As for the Spurs, they are the 15th seed (last place) in the Western Conference with a 3-19 record in their first 22 games.

They are in the middle of a 17-game losing streak and most recently lost to the Houston Rockets by a score of 93-82 (on Monday in Houston).

The franchise has won five titles since the 1999 season, but they have also missed the NBA playoffs in each of the previous four years.
