THE PLAYERS WERE STUCK IN THE STADIUM UNTIL 2 AM – I CAN IMAGINE IT BEING A VERY TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE FOR BAKAYOKO, SAID PETER BOSZ OF HIS CONVERSATION WITH JOHAN BAKAYOKO ABOUT THE BRUSSELS ATTACK.
PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko faced a difficult international break with the Belgium squad. During the match between Belgium and Sweden last Monday, a terrorist attack took place near the King Baudouin Stadium. A man had shot dead two Swedish fans resulting in the suspension of the match at half-time. 20-year-old Johan Bakayoko was in the starting lineup on the night.
Speaking to ESPN, PSV head coach Peter Bosz revealed that he has spoken to Bakayoko about the incident. ‘He indicated that the Belgian players did not realise what had happened until later,’ Bosz said. ‘It has been traumatic because the players were stuck in the stadium until 2 a.m. I can imagine it is an experience that is very traumatic for a young boy like Bakayoko. Although I can imagine it would have been very profound for me too if I had been there.’
PSV are currently top of the Eredivisie table following their unbeaten start to the campaign. This weekend, they face Fortuna Sittard at the Philips Stadion, a chance to increase their gap at the top of the table. AZ Alkmaar are currently just two points behind PSV, with Twente sitting in third place.
