Ake adds to Dutch defensive woes for Euros qualifiers
Nov. 13, 2011 (Reuters) – Due to an injury, Nathan Ake has been left out of the Netherlands’ lineup for their final two European Championship qualifying matches against Gibraltar and Ireland.
Ake of Manchester City is the most recent defender to be added to the Dutch injury list. Sven Botman, Matthijs de Ligt, Jurrien Timber, and Micky van de Ven are also out for the last stretch as they try to qualify for the German finals the next year.
42-cap player Ake was not there for Sunday’s thrilling Premier League match between City and Chelsea. Details on the injury have not been provided by the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) or the club.
The KNVB said it would not call up a replacement for Ake for the matches against Ireland in Amsterdam on Saturday and Gibraltar away on Nov. 21.
The Dutch will qualify if they beat Ireland.
