Grover Stewart of the Colts makes a statement following his suspension.
Grover Stewart, a defensive tackle for the Indianapolis Colts, was suspended for six games this week for breaking the NFL’s policy regarding performance-enhancing drugs. Shortly after the news was announced, Stewart issued a statement.
Stewart expressed his regret to the fans and organization via his Instagram account. He also acknowledged being surprised that he had broken the rules. See his whole remark here (source: Joel A. Erickson).
I want to apologize to the National Football League, the Colts organization, my teammates, our fans, and my family. I was surprised and disappointed to learn I had violated the policy. I respect the integrity of the game and would never purposefully put myself or the team in this kind of situation. I am responsible for what I put in my body, an dI should have taken the proper steps to educate myself. I will learn from this moving forward, and I will take the approproate measures to ensure this never happens again.
Considering how important Stewart is to the team both on and off the field, this is a sad development. Since joining the league in 2017, Stewart has been regarded as a person of the highest character, and few players are held in more respect than him.
Stewart’s absence will be felt greatly on the field. His replacement on the Colts roster is probably not very good, since he is one of the finest inside run defenders in the NFL.
Stewart may be added back to the active roster after the Tennessee Titans game in Week 13.
