USC Football: Trojans Likely To Miss Out On Top Transferring QB

Who will be the Trojans QB come the 2024 season?

The 2023 college football regular season has come to an end, which means free agency time. Yes, free agency; however, in college, they call it “The Transfer Portal.”

It’s the NCAA’s version of free agency, and it’s as frenzy as it is in professional sports. The Trojans are no strangers to the portal as they’ve lost players to it, but they’ve also gained players from it, i.e., Caleb Williams.

As for Williams, he will likely leave for the NFL, leaving the Trojans in desperate need of a quarterback. Whether they’ll look in-house or search for one via the portal is unknown

One thing is certain: transfer from Duke, quarterback Riley Leonard won’t be available for too long, as he is favored to land with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Leonard was a two-year starter for the Blue Devils and played in all 13 games in 2022, but he only played in seven games this season as he suffered a toe injury against the Louisville Cardinals in late October.

He finished the 2023 season with 1,102 passing yards, seven total touchdowns, and three interceptions.

If Thamel happens to be right about this one, the Trojans will need to prepare for Riley in 2024 in their annual game against their oldest and biggest rival.

The portal will open on December 4th, and there is plenty of time for USC and head coach Lincoln Riley to figure out what to do and who to go for via the portal. This will be a very interesting off-season.
