Lions’ Marvin Jones Takes Leave of Absence for Personal Matter
Marvin Jones, a wide receiver with the Lions, said on Instagram that he is giving up football.
Jones tweeted on Tuesday, “I am taking a leave of absence from the team to attend to personal family matters.” “Although it was not an easy choice, I am unable to care for my family and be the player/person that I need to be for this club from a distance. Over the years, this organization has been amazing in providing me and my family love and support, and this is no exception.
Detroit said after the news that Jones had been taken off of the 53-man active roster.
Over his 11-season NFL career, Jones has played for the Bengals, Lions, and Jaguars. After spending two years in Jacksonville and five years in Detroit, the wide receiver rejoined the Lions over the offseason.
With the Lions, Jones had the finest seasons of his career, amassing 4,331 receiving yards and 36 touchdown receptions, including a 1,000-yard campaign in 2017. Jones has participated in six games this season and has five receptions for 35 yards.
