breaking news: How Crystal Palace really feel after seeing their key target signing for Newcastle

It seems Newcastle United are set to welcome a new player to the club.

Eddie Howe’s side are closing in on a move for Chelsea youngster Lewis Hall, with Fabrizio Romano even giving it the ‘Here We Go’ treatment.

The 18-year-old is, according to the Evening Standard, now traveling to Newcastle for a medical ahead of a season-long loan move ahead of a permanent deal worth up to £35m next summer.

It has been an interesting summer for Hall.

Indeed, the teenager reportedly signed a long-term contract earlier this month at Chelsea and had been strongly linked with a move to Crystal Palace on loan.

It’s fair to say the Eagles are less than impressed.

How Crystal Palace feel about Newcastle signing Lewis Hall

The Standard add that Palace have been left feeling disappointed.

It is claimed the Selhurst Park club had agreed a loan move with Chelsea which would have seen them cover Hall’s wages in full.

Now, however, it is Newcastle who have won out as they prepare to bring him into St James’ Park.Chelsea 'change strategy' to agree £28m Newcastle sale despite six-year contract 'agreement'

Newcastle are alive in this transfer market

With Hall signing a new contract and seeming set for Palace, it seems reasonable to assume Newcastle didn’t necessarily plan for this signing at this stage.

Still, much as they did with Tino Livramento, Newcastle are alive to opportunities. Indeed, they aren’t thought to have entered necessarily targeting a right back but moved quickly when he became available.

To do that while dealing with FFP issues shows a flexibility in their thinking.

Given just how dramatic this summer window has been in terms of Premier League spending, the emergence of the Saudi Pro League and the seemingly ever-changing scene at Chelsea, that feels important.
