Journalist claims Everton could now sign 22-year-old who creates more chances than Wilfried Gnonto
Everton are now interested in signing Goncalo Borges.
Borges made his debut for Porto B in August 2019 and went onto make a total of 31 appearances and netted five goals.
While featuring for the youth side, the youngster also made senior debut in December 2021 before raking in 10 appearances in the Primeira Liga during the 2022-23 season.
Borges is yet to score in senior football but already has the Primeira Liga title, Taca de Portugal, Taca da Liga and Supertaca Candido de Oliveira under his belt.
The 22-year-old’s performances for Porto have sparked interest from the Premier League and Everton could now look to snap him up on a permanent deal, a week after bringing in Youssef Chermiti from Sporting Lisbon.
It’s unclear how much Borges would set Everton back, though his potential and the four years remaining in his contract could push his price up.
Is Goncalo Borges an alternative to Wilfried Gnonto for Everton?
While Wilfried Gnonto has clearly been one of Everton’s main targets all summer, they have recently been linked with a host of new attacking names.
The likes of Johan Bakayoko, Hugo Ekitike and Goncalo Borges have all been floated around and it could suggest that the Toffees are preparing to lose out on the Italian winger.
However, it is clear that they are still eager to add youth and attacking threat to their side, with each of the three alternatives very skilful and tricky. In fact, Borges offers some exciting stats despite his poor goalscoring record – creating more chances per 90 minutes than both Gnonto and Demarai Gray.
