Gary Neville gives verdict after three Man City stars involved in bust-up with Arsenal staff
Gary Neville made light of the argument that set-piece resistance was to blame for the altercation between Manchester City players and Arsenal coach Nicolas Jover.
Jover, who once worked for City, is currently the set-piece coach for the Arsenal. After Arsenal’s 1-0 win over the defending Premier League champions, he was spotted arguing with Kyle Walker before Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish got involved.
As a result, Pep Guardiola’s team enters the international break in third place overall. Additionally, it was the first time since Leicester and Crystal Palace humiliated them in 2018 that they dropped back-to-back league games.
Former Manchester United captain Neville gave a tongue-in-cheek response to the incident, without knowing any more about what sparked it. Fellow pundits Theo Walcott and Micah Richards also had their say after a feisty end to proceedings.
Neville commented on Sky Sports, “Football players don’t enjoy set pieces period, do they? “On the training pitch, let alone the opposition set piece coach having a go.”
After watching the video, Theo Walcott, a former Arsenal player, said, “A nerve has been hit.” Micah Richards, who played for City for the majority of his playing career, downplayed how significant the defeat was.
October has here, stated Richards. “I could see the annoyance if it were March or April. It wouldn’t be the end of the world if they lost at Arsenal, but they probably don’t want to.”
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was also asked about the incident during his post-match interview. However, he remained coy despite hinting he knew more than he was letting on.
“I know what happened but I don’t want to say anything,” Guardiola said. “They know it.”
Guardiola congratulated Arsenal on their victory, which lifts the Gunners two points clear of City. Tottenham have clung onto top spot on goals scored, though, after their win at Luton on Saturday afternoon.
