Breaking news: Everton now look unlikely to sign £23m attacker this week you might like him

Everton are unlikely to sign Patson Daka in the near future.

According to Alan Nixon, Sean Dyche had hoped to have signed the striker in time for their clash with Aston Villa this weekend, however a move is ‘taking longer than hoped and expected’.

Nixon reported earlier this month that Everton were considering a move for Daka following Leicester City’s relegation to the Championship.

The Zambian joined the Foxes from RB Salzburg in 2021 and has since netted 14 goals in all competitions, with the Toffees now eager to welcome him back to the top flight to help bolster their attack.

While Everton have already been linked to the likes of Che Adams and Kelechi Iheanacho, it appears to be Daka that Dyche was hopeful of snapping up over the next few days.

However, Nixon has reported that the deal for Daka is taking longer than expected and it is unclear whether Everton will continue their pursuit or will consider pulling out of a move all together.

Everton’s lack of transfer activity up top means that Tom Cannon’s exit may be delayed once again, with the 20-year-old forward set to join Preston North End on loan.

Speaking on his Patreon, Alan Nixon said: ‘Everton boss Sean Dyche’s frustrating wait to sign a striker has put Tom Cannon’s exit on hold.

‘Dyche hoped to have a new forward in time for the next game but a move for Leicester’s Patson Daka is taking longer than hoped and expected.

Instead Dyche has been left with thin options and that means a deadline on Cannon going to Preston on Wednesday may be extended.

‘Cannon played a half in a closed door game at Manchester United but will have to wait for word to go. He was an unused sub for the first team last weekend.’
