Boston Celtics guard Payton Pritchard has agreed on a four-year, $30 million contract

Payton Pritchard, a guard with the Boston Celtics, and his CAA Sports representatives Austin Brown, Max Saidman, and Mitch Nathan announced the terms of a four-year, $30 million deal extension on Sunday.

The fully guaranteed contract includes the assumption that Pritchard would contribute more to the Celtics’ bench unit this year.

Pritchard remarked after Boston’s opening preseason game on Sunday night, “It feels really good.” “Just to be safe, lock it up and join a fantastic organization, a fantastic city. Of course, in my opinion, this is the NBA’s best basketball team and city. It feels great.

Pritchard is the eighth member of the 2020 draft class to reach an agreement on a contract extension at the rookie scale. The others are Anthony Edwards of Minnesota, LaMelo Ball of Charlotte, Tyrese Haliburton of Indiana, Isaiah Stewart of Detroit, Desmond Bane of Memphis, and Devin Vassell of San Antonio.

The extension request must be signed by October 23.

Despite playing a career-low 13.4 minutes per game last year, Pritchard, 25, is anticipated to play more this year. Pritchard, the 26th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, averaged 19.2 and 14.1 minutes per game in his first two NBA seasons.

Since joining the NBA in 2020, Pritchard has shot 42.6% on catch-and-shoot three-pointers, according to Second Spectrum. He is among the top 15 players in the league among those with 300 or more attempts throughout that time period. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Pritchard made and assisted on 17 3-pointers in the final game of the 2022–23 regular season, which is tied for the most by any player in NBA history.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, he and James Harden are the only players in NBA history to have a triple-double and nine 3-pointers in a single game. In the final game of the previous regular season, Pritchard finished with 30 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists.
