The Ngamprah No.3 Junior High School in West Bandung Regency, West Java Province, received a free class on Tuesday from the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (HSR) Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) Educational and Cultural Exchange Base.

Chinese high-speed rail technical experts from the Jakarta-Bandung HSR EMU trains’ designer and manufacturer, China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) Sifang Co., Ltd., visited the school’s campus to teach HSR science classes to local students. They also took Indonesian teenagers on a ride on a moving Jakarta-Bandung HSR EMU train to experience the immersive charm of “China Speed.”

“Boys and girls, who can tell me why the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway trains can run so fast?” Zhang Fangtao, the principal designer of the Jakarta-Bandung HSR EMU trains, adopted a new persona in the classroom and began lecturing about HSR science.

The eager children attentively listened to their science teacher in the classroom, which is close to a conventional railway line and Jakarta-Bandung HSR’s Padalarang Station. They also raised their hands to actively participate in answering questions.

The 40 square meter classroom had a dynamic atmosphere with regular exchanges between Zhang and the students and Q&A sessions, which were interspersed with bursts of applause and laughing.

Saskia, who is 15 years old and in 9th grade, “Cutting the journey between Jakarta and Bandung from more than three hours to about 40 minutes is just cool, I do think high-speed train is a good choice for many people.”

The classroom instruction was followed by an in-person encounter inside the carriage of an EMU train that was actually traveling from Padalarang Station on the Jakarta-Bandung HSR to Halim Station. The entire carriage of the swiftly moving train as it passed through fields, rivers, mountains, and plains of Java Island was filled with youths laughing and the shutter sound of their cell phones.
