Exiled Marc McNulty, a striker for Reading FC, continued to pursue his career outside of Berkshire by being loaned out to Dundee United for a second time over the summer
Marc McNulty, a great forward on loan from Reading, is expected to be out of action for a while due to injury.
The Scotsman sustained a knee injury while competing for the Tangerines in the Scottish League Cup while on a season-long loan with Dundee United.
The 29-year-old has made six appearances for United this season, his second stint with the team after joining them for the previous campaign.
There is currently no set schedule for Marc, according to manager Tam Courts’ statement to The Courier.
“It is looking like he could be a matter of weeks,” a doctor said. “We need to wait on the bruising to settle down, get the scan results, and give him the best possible support we can.”
Courts acknowledged his admiration for McNulty despite the forward’s paucity of goals.
After being frozen out once more by the Royals, the former Coventry City player finally finished his move from Reading to Canada in the middle of August.
He was left behind when the senior squad went on a pre-season training camp to Scotland and even with the squad short on numbers and players out injured, he was not considered for selection.
It is not the first time he has been left in the cold during his time in Berkshire, having been exiled by former boss Jose Gomes when he was in charge.
McNulty is enjoying life much better in his homeland, though, and Courts says he is a key figure in the dressing room at Tannadice.
“Since he has come back he has been really committed to what we are trying to do here”, said the manager.
“The goals haven’t come for him but performance levels have been good. He is respected and liked in the changing room.
“If we are going to have to go without him for a period of time then he is a significant loss but, by the same token, Nicky Clark is a guy who can score goals at this level.”
Even when Marc McNulty was available, there have been a few names that we had on the table.
“I do think we have a plan in place if we need to go to the market, but I also want to keep giving the players who are in the building an opportunity,” the speaker said.
With his contract expiring in June of next year, McNulty’s time at Reading is all but finished.
