Season summary:
Arriving to the club from Port Adelaide at the end of 2022, Amon has added significant class to the Hawks in his first year at the club. The 28-year-old started the season regularly on the wing, but made the switch to more of a defensive role at the mid-way point of the season. He finished in eighth place at his old club’s best and fairest leaderboard in 2022, before going on to finish in the same position in his first year at the Hawks. With his clean foot skills and decision making, Amon was able to provide run and drive across the Hawks half back, averaging 23.1 disposals and 3.6 rebound 50s per game.
Best AFL game:
One of Amon’s stand-out games came against Western Bulldogs in Round 22 when he finished with 32 disposals alongside 13 marks, while also booting a goal.
How the coaches saw him:
“Karl moved down back just after the half-way point of the season. He was really good at setting us up behind the ball, almost like a bit of a quarter back. When he got the ball, we looked better as a team as he usually does something really good with it. He found plenty of the footy, while providing plenty of run and drive from half back. His left foot is a real weapon for us. Multiple times when he’s kicking the ball inside 50, it usually results in a mark and a shot at goal for us. I think he adapted to the role really well, having never played back before. We’re looking forward to him doing a pre-season with the defenders and continuing to grow and improve down back.” – Kade Simpson
