On their route to winning banner No. 18, the Boston Celtics went through a lot of upheaval. In an attempt to win another title, key franchise players were transferred, head coaches were replaced, and rosters were completely reorganised.
Brad Stevens, the president of basketball operations for the Celtics, was present for almost all of it despite the several shifts. In 2013, he took over as the Green Team’s coach, and he guided the C’s to several Eastern Conference Finals. Even while those teams were never the best, they did provide a strong basis for success, which Stevens enhanced once he was appointed the interim general manager in 2021.
The native of Indiana had a major role in the Celtics’ 2024 NBA championship run by acquiring players like Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis, who helped Boston get past their early season setbacks. Stevens won 2024 NBA Executive of the Year in recognition of his achievements.
After the title parade, Stevens is getting back to business and getting ready for the draft. The 30th and 54th overall choices will be used by the Celtics if they decide against making a trade. According to Bobby Manning of Celtics CLNS, Stevens was realistic about how a rookie would fit on the squad currently in place, despite the hopes of many clubs for a franchise-altering pick in the first round.
“When healthy, it will be difficult for any draft pick to break into our rotation,” Stevens said during a press conference on Tuesday morning. “This will be a great chance to bring in someone who we believe will support us in the future.”
