It is now evident that significant adjustments are required in order for the Golden State Warriors to regain their position as a formidable team in the Western Conference, following their complete elimination from the NBA playoffs.

The Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Dallas Mavericks, and Oklahoma City Thunder are leading the West at the moment with young squads, and the Warriors are trying to figure out how to surround superstar Stephen Curry with more talent in order to maximize his potential for the final few years of his career.Along with trying to assemble a championship team, veteran shooter Klay Thompson may have played his final game for the Warriors. All indications are that he will leave the team in NBA free agency, most likely to join the Orlando Magic. Although Thompson is no longer the dominant two-way player of old, San Francisco will miss him and needs to be replaced by a player better suited for this stage of his career. It appears that player could be Paul George of the Los Angeles Clippers, as his contract negotiations with his team are not going well, raising speculation that he might leave this summer, with the Warriors being a potential destination. Brian Windhorst of ESPN states that

It’s hard to predict what will happen with the Warriors and Clippers right now because there are a lot of possible outcomes and the situation appears to be confusing.

The Warriors may immediately regain their status as a serious title contender in the West if George chooses to move to the Bay Area to play with Curry and company, while the Clippers’ prospects of winning in the future would be severely damaged.
