Aston Villa plot exciting move for Juventus attacker after European ban, but Everton interest sets up transfer battle

Samuel Iling-Junior of Juventus

Aston Villa have set their sights on a Juventus winger after the Italian giants were thrown out of the Europa Conference League, although Unai Emery’s side will reportedly face competition from Everton for the signing.

On Friday, Juve were banned from competing in the 2023-24 Europa Conference League due to a breach of Financial Fair Play rules. They have also been fined £17.1million by UEFA, though they will only have to pay half of that fine if their records are up to standard for the next three seasons.

Juve had been favourites to win Europe’s third-tier club competition after finishing seventh in Serie A last term. But the Italian FA will now decide which club will take their spot, and it is highly likely to be Fiorentina after they finished one place behind Juve and reached the final of last season’s Europa Conference League

As per Football Italia, who cite reports emerging from Italy, there will be big changes at Juve this summer, due to the team not playing in Europe and the fact club chiefs hope to lower their wage bill.

And one player who might depart is English talent Samuel Iling-Junior. He is a 19-year-old winger who currently represents England U20s on the international stage.

Iling-Junior spent time in the Chelsea academy before joining Juve’s youth setup in September 2020. But he could now return to England as Villa are interested in him.

The report does not mention how much Villa might have to spend to strike a deal, although it should not be a huge amount as transfermarkt put his value at €9m (£7.7m).

Iling-Junior would not be an immediate improvement to Emery’s forward options, given his tender age and lack of experience at senior level. But it could end up being a great move from Villa if the wide man goes on to reach his full potential, which is huge.

Aston Villa, Everton both want Samuel Iling-Junior

The only trouble for Emery is that Everton are also hoping to snap Iling-Junior up. This means both teams will have to make contact with the player and convince him that they are the best suitors for him.

Iling-Junior would probably jump at the chance to return to England. While Juve are clearly a massive club, his ultimate dream will be to star in the Premier League. Plus, a return to England would allow Iling-Junior to be closer to his family.
