Andre Seldon Jr., a cornerback for Utah State, passed away at the age of 22 following “an apparent cliff-diving accident at a nearby reservoir,” the school announced.

In a statement released in response to Seldon’s passing, the Cache County Sheriff’s Office stated that he was last observed diving off of Utah’s Porcupine Reservoir. The Utah Department of Public Safety dive team discovered his body at 9:05 p.m. on Saturday after he failed to surface.

After two seasons, Seldon transferred to play for Utah State, leaving New Mexico State. Seldon played for two seasons at Michigan prior to that.

According to a news release from the school, interim head coach and defensive coordinator Nate Dreiling stated, “Our football program is heartbroken to have to endure the loss of one of our own.” “Andre was an amazing person and teammate; I can attest to this having had a prior experience with him at New Mexico State. We are sending Andre’s family our deepest sympathies and prayers as we join them in mourning this amazing loss.”

Vice president and director of sports Diana Sabau remarked, “Our Utah State University Athletics family is devastated over the sudden death of Andre Seldon Jr.” “We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and all who loved Andre.”
