Alex Pearce to Continue as Fremantle Dockers Captain in 2025, Josh Treacy Joins Leadership Group

Alex Pearce will extend his captaincy at Fremantle for a third consecutive season, cementing his place among the club’s longest-serving leaders. The decision reflects the club’s confidence in his leadership despite narrowly missing the finals last year. Fremantle’s leadership structure remains mostly unchanged, with the only adjustment being the promotion of young forward Josh Treacy. Vice-captains Caleb Serong and Andrew Brayshaw retain their roles, alongside leadership group members Hayden Young, Sam Switkowski, and Jaeger O’Meara.

Pearce now joins an elite group of Dockers captains who have led the club for multiple seasons. Only Peter Bell, Matthew Pavlich, and Nat Fyfe have captained the team for a longer tenure. Fremantle football manager Joe Brierty praised Pearce’s continued growth as a leader, emphasizing his strong values, dedication, and ability to inspire those around him. Since joining the leadership group in 2018, Pearce has been a key figure in setting the team’s standards. His ability to command respect from both teammates and coaches was reflected in the voting process that reaffirmed his captaincy.

The leadership group’s newest member, Josh Treacy, has enjoyed a remarkable rise over the past year. The 22-year-old forward made a significant impact in 2024, scoring 45 goals—the highest tally for a Fremantle player in the past decade. His performance cemented his role as an integral part of the Dockers’ forward structure. Brierty highlighted Treacy’s commitment, vocal presence, and ability to lead by example, noting that he has earned the trust and respect of his teammates.

Pearce’s first assignment after being reappointed as skipper could be an unusual one, as he is set to play against his own team in next weekend’s All Stars exhibition match—provided he recovers from an ankle injury sustained during training. The Dockers’ decision to maintain their leadership core follows a similar move by the West Coast Eagles, who recently confirmed Liam Duggan and Oscar Allen as co-captains for another season.

With Pearce leading the charge once again and Treacy stepping into a formal leadership role, Fremantle appears focused on stability and long-term development as they gear up for the 2025 AFL season.
