In a show of resilience, Ken Hinkley has expressed his eagerness to pursue a premiership with Port Adelaide after a brief respite following the finals. Inspired by Brisbane’s Chris Fagan, Hinkley is determined to turn the tide and finally secure that elusive flag. The Power’s coach narrowly avoided a disappointing early exit from the finals, guiding his team to a top-four finish, which included a heated semi-final victory against Hawthorn and a challenging preliminary final loss to Sydney.

Despite the scrutiny surrounding his future, especially after the 2024 season where Port Adelaide did not reach the Grand Final, Hinkley remains committed to leading the team into his 13th year as head coach. Reports indicated that the club may have considered a change if they had exited the finals without a win. However, Hinkley’s focus is now set on the upcoming 2025 season, which marks the final year of his current contract.

During an interview on FIVEaa radio, Hinkley expressed confidence in the Power’s prospects, noting how a few days off have revitalized him. “It does get hard at times, but give me a break and I feel fresh again,” he stated. He emphasized his determination, stating, “I ain’t giving this away,” and referenced his close relationship with Fagan as a source of inspiration. Hinkley acknowledged the importance of persistence, believing that success will come to those who continue to put in the effort.

As he prepares for the challenges of the new season, Hinkley anticipates facing questions regarding his coaching future, having set a record for the most V/AFL games coached without a Grand Final appearance. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic, drawing strength from Fagan’s recent success as the oldest V/AFL premiership coach. Hinkley is committed to improving the club and ensuring that they are competitive at the highest level.

Port Adelaide is also making moves in the trade market, eyeing Gold Coast’s Jack Lukosius while navigating interest from dual All-Australian Dan Houston, who may be considering a shift to Victoria. Additionally, they are linked to potential trades involving Collingwood’s Joe Richards and the Western Bulldogs’ Riley Garcia, as the club looks to strengthen its roster for the upcoming season. Hinkley’s unwavering spirit and strategic approach could pave the way for a promising year ahead for the Power.
