COLUMBUS, Ohio — Jack Miller III was once the most exciting thing about Ohio State’s future when he committed to the Buckeyes in 2018 as a top 100 recruit in the 2020 class.

But now his career is over after transferring from Florida, with reportedly no plans of going to another program.

His addition at the time was viewed as the first true sign of how Ryan Day — then an offensive coordinator — planned to make Columbus a hotbed for quarterbacks.

Miller’s career since that moment has been rocky starting with a series of injuries that hindered his high school career and sent him tumbling down the recruiting rankings.

It also forced Day — now as head coach — to go find another quarterback to bring in alongside Miller, eventually identifying C.J. Stroud as that player.

Stroud went on to win the starting job in 2021, turning himself into a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist and eventually No. 2 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Meanwhile, Miller never started a game spending two seasons in Columbus as the third-stringer behind Justin Fields and Stroud in 2020, then behind Stroud and Kyle McCord in 2021. He played 53 snaps turning those into 101 yards and on 7-of-14 passing. His only touchdown was on a two-yard run against Nebraska in 2020.

While with the Buckeyes in 2021, Miller was suspended after being arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while impaired.

The Arizona native transferred to Florida after the 2021 season where he’s spent the last two years dealing with injuries while being behind Anthony Richardson in 2022 then Graham Mertz in 2023. Between that he did start for the Gators against Oregon State in the 2022 Las Vegas Bowl.

Miller is the only member of Ohio State’s 2021 QB class who never outright won a starting job whether for the Buckeyes or elsewhere. Quinn Ewers also transferred after last season and spent the past two years as Texas’ starter getting the Longhorns to the College Football Playoff in 2023. McCord won OSU’s job in 2023, going 11-1 before transferring to Syracuse.
