Padres News: Robert Suarez Ejected for Rule Violation, Suspension Imminent

Padres' Robert Suarez ejected for sticky substance before throwing single pitch | Fox News

One part of baseball that the sport would love to forget is the use of performance-enhancing drugs or substances. One way baseball has tried to deal with everything is the crack down on the use of sticky stuff for pitchers.

The rule was implemented a couple of years ago and every so often, we still see players getting in trouble for it.

Most of the time, umpires will check the glove of pitchers to check to see if they violate any foreign substance. If a pitcher is found to have anything, it calls for an immediate ejection from the game.

On Wednesday, San Diego Padres reliever Robert Suarez was just about to enter the game when it he was discovered to have some sticky substance. He was immediately ejected from the game and could now face some sort of suspension.

Baseball has been cracking down on this over the last few seasons, so this could mean that Suarez will miss some time. The Padres need all their guys available to aid this playoff push, so this is poor timing for sure.

Suarez has only played in 13 games this season for the Padres, as he returned from an injury a while back. He has been a key member of the San Diego bullpen, so any missed time would be a big blow to this squad.

On the year, Suarez holds an ERA of 4.73 with a WHIP of 0.90. He had just started to get back into the groove of things lately, so this is unfortunate.

It remains unknown what was found on Suarez, but it was enough for the umpires to throw him out of the game. This is the last thing that the Friars needed as they try to climb back into contention with only a little over a month left in the season.

There will likely be more to this story coming down the line, so be on the lookout for more information on it all.
