Jamon Dumas-Johnson commits to Kentucky

It is the early National Signing Day for college football, and the Kentucky Wildcats are looking to round out their class of 2024 as we head into the offseason.
With portal transfers also signing today, the Cats might have landed their biggest commitment yet from the portal as Georgia Bulldogs transfer linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson has chosen to play next season for Kentucky. He took to Instagram to announce the news.
Dumas-Johnson, a 6-foot-1 and 235-pound linebacker out of Baltimore, chose the Cats over Auburn and Florida State. He is currently ranked as the No. 13 overall player in the portal and the No. 1 linebacker, according to the 247 Sports transfer rankings.
He had a very solid career in Athens for the Dawgs, including an All-American sophomore campaign to help earn his second national championship ring. The veteran linebacker was headed for another solid 2023 season before an arm injury had him out for the remainder of the year after nine games.
Dumas-Johnson finished his Georgia career with 125 tackles, 9.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one interception in 38 games.
Now, he will bring that production to Lexington with one year of eligibility remaining.
For Kentucky, the linebacker room is young and lacking depth at the moment. With Trevin Wallace headed to the NFL, landing Dumas-Johnson gives Brad White a plug-and-play option alongside D’Eryk Jackson if he opts to come back for one more season.
A huge pickup for the Cats and one that is rather timely with the lack of portal additions on defense and the loss of Wallace. This is easily one of Mark Stoops’ biggest wins in the transfer portal since he arrived at Kentucky.
