Josh Heupel responds sagaciously to a query on Eli Drinkwitz’s derogatory remarks during the post-game handshake.

In answer to a query on remarks made by Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz during the post-game handshake between the two coaches following UT’s defeat in Columbia last weekend, Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel had a sage response on Thursday.

During the quick post-game handshake, Drinkwitz told Heupel, “we stand on business, Josh”.

During his last media appearance on Thursday prior to Tennessee’s game this weekend against Georgia, Heupel was questioned about the exchange.

“Man, I really didn’t hear it while we were out there at the handshake,” Heupel replied. “We’ve moved well on to the game we got this week.”

That’s the finest explanation Heupel could have given. If you’re Heupel, there’s no need to give that story any more momentum. It’s not a huge problem, really. After defeating Tennessee for the first time since taking the Missouri position prior to the 2020 campaign, Drinkwitz experienced an emotional moment.

It might provide inspiration for the Vols when they face Missouri again, preferably in 2025. Heupel doesn’t need to make it into a larger topic before a crucial game against Georgia if it isn’t.
