Zach Fulton becomes third New York Giants player in 4 days to retire

Zach Fulton becomes third Giants player to retire from NFL | Yardbarker

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – For the third time this week, a veteran player with the New York Giants has informed the team of his decision to retire.

Offensive lineman Zach Fulton, signed this offseason, told the Giants late Thursday night of his intentions to hang up his helmet and shoulder pads.

This news comes after linebacker Todd Davis and guard/center Joe Looney, who signed with the Giants last Saturday, opted to call it quits from the NFL just days into their tenures with Big Blue.

Three veterans in a span of four days walked away from Joe Judge’s team, raising the question: Is it a concerning trend or just part of the game?

It’s understandable that the three retirements will be grouped together initially in searching for rationale with the Giants. But, with Looney, his agent Andy Ross told NorthJersey.com and USA TODAY Network that Looney did not think his body would hold up the way he needed it to, and he didn’t want to string along the coaches and teammates, and hold another roster spot.

In an interview with 9Sports in Denver, Davis was complimentary of the Giants and in no way suggested Judge’s hard-nosed coaching style – perceived as old school and perhaps too much for today’s NFL by some – was part of his decision.

“It was great there. I feel like they have a great coaching staff,” Davis said. “There’s a lot of coaches there who care about their players doing well, so I expect them to do well.”
