Not very long ago, Dobbs was sitting at the team’s Tempe facility, explaining to reporters the ins and outs of being a journeyman quarterback—from picking up a new playbook to figuring out new restaurants on the other side of the nation.

He now has to go through the entire procedure again.

Dobbs was moved to the Minnesota Vikings last Tuesday at the trade deadline, having already being sold to Arizona prior to the regular season. Kirk Cousins’ season-ending achilles injury meant that Jaren Hall was the starter going into Week 9.

After Hall was knocked out, Dobbs took over for the Vikings. Lacking practice reps and the playbook, Dobbs overcame a rough start to lead the club to victory.

The former Cardinals quarterback has already been announced as the starter for Minnesota’s next game. He became the second quarterback since 1950 to start for three teams in one calendar year, joining Baker Mayfield.

How fresh was Dobbs? He was still learning names and was teaching the offensive linemen his cadence on the sideline before he went in.

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said Dobbs was translating and mapping out plays while in the huddle since he had limited experience with the verbiage.

Back in Arizona, the Cardinals hope to see Kyler Murray return to the field for the first time in 2023. However, there’s still people in the building rooting for Dobbs to succeed in his new surroundings.
