Freo hopeful over ruckman, defender’s knee injury ‘pretty serious’

Brandon Walker will miss “a fair bit of footy” because of a knee injury, while FREMANTLE is optimistic about gun ruckman Sean Darcy’s ankle issue.

In the third quarter of the Dockers’ 46-point loss against Collingwood on Saturday at the MCG, Darcy and Walker sustained injuries.

The losses compounded Freo’s current injury problems, and Justin Longmuir’s club finished with a 7-10 record, quickly losing hope of making the playoffs.

With his knee injury, Walker is expected to lose a significant amount of time, but Longmuir was more optimistic about Darcy.

“He (Walker) has done something pretty serious. He’s sore. We’ll get him back and scan him, but he’s going to miss a fair bit of footy I imagine,” Longmuir said.

Regarding Darcy, he stated: “It was a bit of an innocuous injury, the way it happened, but he’s gone over on his ankle so we’ll get him back, scan him, hopefully it comes up all right.”

The Dockers had a respectable first half, but the Magpies’ 10-goal second quarter completely destroyed them.

For several of his young Dockers, like Neil Erasmus, Matt Johnson, Liam Henry, and Nathan O’Driscoll, Longmuir claimed that the term and the match will serve as a lesson.

“The energy and the speed with which they played with around the midfield in that second quarter was top shelf, top shelf,” he stated.
