The brother of an NFL star takes harsh shots at Grant Williams
A Philadelphia Eagles jersey worn by Grant Williams has enraged Dak Precott’s brother.

Grant Williams wore a Philadelphia Eagles jersey to a press conference following the Dallas Mavericks’ victory over the Charlotte Hornets. Tad Prescott, the brother of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, expressed his annoyance with Grant’s actions, saying he doesn’t care for the city’s supporters.

“Is he really this serious? You represent a Dallas team, and this is the kind of sh*t you do? Must not desire the city’s or the fans’ affection.”

Mavs' Grant Williams beefs with Dak Prescott's brother after trolling Cowboys

This is an incredible overreaction from Tad Prescott. Just because he plays in Dallas doesn’t mean he’s local to Dallas or will support every Dallas sports team. While Luka Doncic has absorbed Dallas culture and is known to be a massive fan of the Cowboys and the MLB World Series-winning Texas Rangers, he’s an international star who was exposed to the sports with Dallas teams.

Grant is a Texas native and was likely pulling a harmless troll. The Mavericks roster had an Eagles superfan up until the 2022 season, as Jalen Brunson is a Philadelphia native who often exchanged jibes with Luka over the Cowboys and Eagles. Standout rookie Dereck Lively II is also openly an Eagles fan, so at least Grant will not be alone in his fandom.

You could argue that Grant doesn’t appreciate the history of the team if he attended a Mavs press conference wearing a Heat jersey, but it’s absurd to go as far as Tad Prescott did for the NFL. Though it’s not correct to argue that wearing an Eagles jersey is a disrespect to the citizens of Dallas, he does want more people to support his brother.

Grant Williams Earning Love From The Mavericks Fanbase

Grant Williams was the most notable offseason acquisition for the Mavericks, joining on a sign-and-trade from the Celtics that also included the Spurs. Grant was a rotational player at best in Boston but has proven he could be a lot more valuable through his first seven games in Dallas.

5 Reasons why every Mavericks fan will love Grant WilliamsHe is averaging 15.1 points on 55.6% shooting from the field, with a sensational 54.3% from three on 6.6 attempts per game. He has also taken the role of being the primary defensive stopper on the roster. While he does have some limitations with his height, he perfectly fits into the defensive glue guy role that the Mavs have lacked since Dorian Finney-Smith was traded for Kyrie Irving.

Grant’s greater offensive versatility is paying huge dividends as well, with him fitting perfectly within the Mavericks offensive and getting a chance to shine. With the kind of performances he’s been putting up, it’s no surprise that most of the Mavericks’ fanbase is already falling in love with what he has provided.

Williams has been a major contributor to the Mavs’ 6-1 start to the season. Grant has received a lot of accolades from Luka for his ability to assess offenses, communicate effectively on defense, and assist in positioning all of his teammates.

His season +28 rating adds even more credence to the good value he has brought. Leaving the Celtics was a risk, but so far it’s paying off. Grant is a highly sought-after frontcourt player in the NBA who the Mavs have locked up on a team-friendly long-term contract if they can maintain their current level of play.
