Wolves make move to beat Everton in race for Blackburn starlet Adam Wharton

Wolves are making to move to beat Everton and a host of other Premier League clubs to the signing of Blackburn AZAdam Wharton, according to Alan Nixon.

The journalist wrote on his patreon account on Tuesday (29 August) that Wolves had added the 19-year-old midfielder to their wishlist but he will not come cheap at a £15million valuation.

Wolves are seemingly set to have their coffers boosted by the sale of Matheus Nunes to Manchester City, though.

Nixon added that Wolves have already asked City for James McAtee to be included in that deal and will learn the answer to that on Wednesday.

As well as Everton, Newcastle United, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Crystal Palace are all named as teams keeping tabs on Wharton.

Wharton is one of the hottest young properties in the Championship so there is absolutely no wonder so many top-flight clubs are tracking his situation before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm on Thursday 1 September.

However, it is hard to see where Everton can get the funds from to complete a deal, especially having seen Portuguese striker Beto arrive from Udinese on a four-year deal in a transfer that could reportedly be worth up to £30million (BBC Sport).

Everton do need reinforcements on top of Beto, that much is certainly true, but the Toffees still need to be mindful of working within the tight financial constraints they are dealing with.

So, Wharton is the age, type, and profile that the club should certainly be pursuing. But, realistically, with so much interest in the 19-year-old, it is pretty difficult to see Everton winning this particularly race. Stranger things have happened, though.
