Leeds table new £10m bid for player Everton wanted to sign this summer

The Mail claim Leeds United have tabled a £10m bid to sign Swansea City striker Joel Piroe with talks ongoing between the Whites and the player’s representatives. Piroe’s Swansea deal expires in 2024.

Piroe, 24, has starred for Swansea over the last couple of years. In two season, he has scored 44 goals in 92 games for the Welsh club and now, in the final year of his deal. He already has two goals this term.

Alan Nixon reported on his Patreon channel this morning that Leeds had made a bid to sign the £15m-rated Dutch star. Phil Hay says Leeds are pursuing a move – and now, The Mail says a bid is worth £10m.

The latest report says that alongside the £10m fee, Leeds are also in talks with the agents of Piroe this week – with Daniel Farke very keen to add attackers to his side. Everton are also said to have looked.

Some reports suggest that Swansea want between £15m and £20m for Piroe. With the window nearing an end, Swansea may be willing to reduce the price in order to avoid selling on a free. But how much?

If the Swans rated Piroe at £20m at the start of the window, the chances of them halving their asking price for him is small. Maybe, a deal can be done in the region of £12m and £15m. A bargain, even then.

Leeds cannot rely on Patrick Bamford. Mateo Joseph is injured. Georginio Rutter is seen as a wide man, and Joe Gelhardt is best as a 10. So, Piroe – or a no.9 like Piroe – is needed. He’d be a super signing.
