Pickleball enthusiasts in Montgomery County have something to celebrate with the opening of six brand-new courts at East Norbeck Local Park. This exciting expansion is part of Montgomery Parks’ ongoing effort to meet the growing demand for pickleball facilities. The newly added courts will provide residents with more opportunities to enjoy the fast-growing sport, and they’ll also benefit from the convenience of well-lit evening play.
To mark the completion of these new courts, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. This event will officially open the courts to the public, offering a chance for the community to explore the new facilities and enjoy a game of pickleball under the lights. The addition of lighting at East Norbeck Local Park ensures that the courts will be accessible during evening hours, a feature that has become increasingly important as pickleball continues to rise in popularity.
Chuck Kines, a planner with Montgomery Parks, expressed his enthusiasm about the location, highlighting its excellent parking options and the already existing quality lighting at the site. Kines also noted that the East Norbeck Local Park project is just one part of a larger initiative to expand pickleball opportunities throughout the county. With this addition, Montgomery Parks now boasts a total of 18 dedicated pickleball courts, along with more than 50 shared tennis and pickleball courts. For residents who previously played tennis at East Norbeck, the nearby Olney Manor Recreational Park offers 19 tennis courts just a short drive away.
The East Norbeck expansion is only the latest in a series of improvements Montgomery Parks has made to its pickleball facilities. Recent upgrades include new lighting at Sundown, Ednor, and Meadowood Local Parks, as well as the addition of four new dedicated pickleball courts and one striped tennis court at Columbia Local Park. Further plans are already in place, including pickleball striping at Owens Local Park and renovations to the tennis courts at Meadowbrook Local Park, which will include two courts with upgraded lighting and pickleball striping.
Looking ahead, Montgomery Parks has even more exciting developments planned for pickleball fans. Next year, Greenwood Local Park will see the addition of three more dedicated pickleball courts, continuing the county’s commitment to growing the sport. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just starting, these improvements are sure to enhance your pickleball experience.
