Port Adelaide has secured the future of two key players, Teagan Germech and Caitlin Wendland, by extending their contracts for an additional three years. Both players, initially brought in as injury replacements, have impressed this season and will remain with the club until the end of 2027.
Germech and Wendland have been standout performers for the Power in 2024, playing in every game so far. Germech, who previously played as an injury replacement for Greater Western Sydney, has been a strong presence in the backline, stepping up in the absence of injured captain Janelle Cuthbertson. At just 22 years old, Germech has averaged six disposals, two spoils, and 2.5 tackles per match, showcasing her athleticism and ability to read the game.
Wendland, on the other hand, made an immediate impact after joining the team following a stellar SANFLW campaign with Central District. A three-game stint as an injury replacement for Brisbane last season also demonstrated her abilities. The talented left-footer has kicked eight goals so far this season, including two in Port Adelaide’s recent victory over the Giants. Wendland’s consistency has been remarkable, as she’s scored in each of her last five games. She has also contributed significantly in other areas, averaging seven disposals and 5.7 tackles per match while playing as a half-forward.
Port Adelaide’s List Manager, Naomi Maidment, expressed her confidence in both players, highlighting their seamless integration into the team. “Teagan and Caitlin have taken full advantage of their opportunities with us and have been fantastic additions,” said Maidment. “Teagan’s work ethic and ability to read the play have been invaluable, and Caitlin’s foot skills and football IQ are exceptional. We’re excited about their potential and look forward to their continued development over the next three seasons.”
With these contract extensions, both Germech and Wendland will continue to play vital roles for Port Adelaide, contributing both on and off the field. Their growth and development will be crucial for the club’s future success, and the team is eager to see how their skills evolve over the next few years.
