The Duluth Area Pickleball Association recently hosted a vibrant glow-in-the-dark pickleball event, uniting the community for a meaningful cause. Held at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center on Rice Lake Road, this unique gathering attracted hundreds of enthusiastic players eager to participate in the spirited matches.
On this special night, around 100 members of the association came together to enjoy the fun-filled atmosphere. The event not only highlighted the joys of pickleball but also served a significant purpose—raising awareness about breast cancer. Organizers aimed to shine a light on this critical health issue while fostering community spirit through sports.
Sophie Lohn, the organizer of the event and a proud breast cancer survivor, shared her personal connection to the cause. “This year marks my second anniversary of being cancer-free, and I wanted to celebrate not only my journey but also honor all breast cancer survivors,” she stated. Her heartfelt motivation drove the event, creating an environment of support and recognition for those affected by breast cancer.
All proceeds from ticket sales were directed to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, further solidifying the event’s commitment to making a positive impact. Attendees not only enjoyed a night of fun and camaraderie but also contributed to a larger movement aimed at supporting breast cancer research and awareness initiatives.
The Duluth Area Pickleball Association’s annual event exemplifies how local communities can come together for a noble cause, merging the enjoyment of sports with a vital message of awareness and support. This blend of fun and philanthropy is a powerful reminder of the difference that can be made when people unite for a shared purpose.
