Randal Kolo Muani rejects Tottenham to join PSG

Tottenham miss out on signing French superstar Randal Kolo Muani.

According to Sacha Tavolieri on Twitter, Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have lost out to Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign Eintracht Frankfurt star Randal Kolo Muani in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The French international shone at last year’s FIFA World Cup and came within a breath of securing France their third triumph in the dying seconds. Despite failing to see it through, Kolo Muani enjoyed a fine campaign in the Bundesliga, scoring 15 goals and assisting another 14 in 32 matches. He scored 23 goals across all competitions.

At 24, Kolo Muani is at the right age to take the next step in his career and take his talent to greater heights. Capable of playing as a centre forward and also out wide on the right, he is a dynamic and mobile player who is difficult to pin down.

It has been a busy summer at the N17, with several players arriving to aid the rebuild under new manager Ange Postecoglou. However, the biggest transfer activity involved the departure of star striker Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.

While Postecoglou can use Richarlison to make up the numbers, the Brazilian should struggle to replicate Kane’s numbers. It is only logical that the North Londoners would be in the market for another striker with Kolo Muani amongst those considered.

However, their hopes of securing the 24-year-old have now been effectively dashed as the player has rejected an approach from Spurs. While the club were keen on his services for some time now, the delay in transforming the interest into a concrete offer appears to have worked against them.

Kolo Muani is now on his way to French champions Paris Saint-Germain. Luis Enrique’s outfit lost Neymar and Lionel Messi this summer but held on to Kylian Mbappe. The frontline lacks the bite of old and landing Kolo Muani will give them a reliable goalscorer who has prior experience sharing the field with Mbappe.

For Tottenham, it is an opportunity missed. Kolo Muani would have been a fine addition but now they will have to look elsewhere as the summer transfer window draws to a close.
