In an exciting update for Collingwood’s AFLW fans, young forward Georgia Clark will rejoin the team for their Week Nine showdown against Carlton this Sunday afternoon. Clark is stepping in for forward Eliza James, who will sit out due to a concussion sustained in a collision during last week’s match against Adelaide. James’s absence marks the only change to the Pies’ lineup as they prepare to hunt for their second victory of the season, with this being their penultimate game for 2024.
The match, which will be hosted at Victoria Park, is particularly notable as it’s the first time Collingwood has invited Carlton to this historic venue for an AFLW game. In the past, the two teams have exclusively faced off at Ikon Park since the competition’s inception in 2017. Collingwood fans are especially eager to see strong performances from defenders Ruby Schleicher and first-year sensation Lucy Cronin, both of whom have been standout players throughout the season.
Adding further significance to Sunday’s event, this game kicks off the Indigenous Round. Collingwood will proudly wear a special guernsey designed by Uncle Trevor Davis, father of former club legend Leon Davis. The guernsey, initially worn by Collingwood’s AFL team during the Sir Doug Nicholls Round earlier this year, features a design inspired by Uncle Trevor’s artwork titled “Healing.” This piece symbolizes a journey of cultural reflection and unity, embodying the spirit of healing that the club has embraced over recent years.
The Indigenous Round serves as a time for reflection and celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage within the AFL community. Uncle Trevor, a proud Wadjuk, Ballardong, Wilman, Wongi, and Noongar man, created the artwork with a focus on reconciliation and the club’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment. The Pies’ choice to wear this meaningful guernsey during such an important round is a testament to their dedication to cultural awareness and respect.
The game is set for a 3:05 pm start and will be broadcast live on Channel 7, giving fans everywhere the chance to tune in.
