The Collingwood Football Club is excited to announce the launch of its 2024 AFLW Indigenous guernsey. This special uniform will be worn by the AFLW team during the AFL’s Indigenous Round matches, specifically in Round Nine against Carlton at Victoria Park and in Round Ten against Melbourne at IKON Park.
This guernsey made its debut during the AFL’s Sir Doug Nicholls Round in May, worn by the men’s team. The design, crafted by Uncle Trevor Davis—father of former player and the Club’s Cultural Development Manager Leon Davis—draws inspiration from Uncle Trevor’s artwork titled “Healing.” As a proud Wadjuk, Ballardong, Wilman, Wongi, and Noongar man, Uncle Trevor’s painting represents the journey of healing that the Club has undertaken in recent years.
The design elements of the guernsey incorporate significant symbols from Uncle Trevor’s art. The artwork includes representations of rain, signifying the cleansing of the Club, and a central figure that embodies the essence of the Collingwood Football Club as a communal space where individuals from various backgrounds can come together and share their stories. Additionally, the footprints depicted in the design symbolize the diverse individuals who travel to the Club.
For those interested in learning more about the story behind the guernsey, additional details are available on the Club’s official website. The 2024 AFLW Indigenous guernsey can be purchased online or at the Club shop and will also be available during the home game against Carlton.
