In an exciting development, the Gold Coast SUNS have successfully completed a three-club trade involving Collingwood and Port Adelaide. This strategic move sees the SUNS acquiring John Noble from Collingwood, while bidding farewell to Jack Lukosius and Rory Atkins, who will be heading to Port Adelaide.

The trade agreement not only secures Noble for the SUNS, but also includes pick 39 and two future first-round selections linked to Collingwood and Port Adelaide. In return, the SUNS are sending Lukosius, Atkins, and their own picks 13, 29, and 50 from the upcoming 2024 Telstra AFL Draft. Craig Cameron, the General Manager of Player Talent & Strategy for the SUNS, emphasized the trade’s benefits for all teams involved, highlighting the importance of strengthening their defense.

Cameron stated, “One of our main goals during this trade period has been to enhance our rebound defense. We see John as a key player who can provide not just skill but also vital experience. By acquiring future draft assets, we are positioning ourselves for sustained success in the years to come.” He also mentioned that discussions with Lukosius and Atkins revealed that facilitating this trade was in everyone’s best interests, and expressed gratitude for their contributions to the club.

Noble, who has a solid track record with 112 AFL matches under his belt, brings valuable experience to the SUNS, having played 20 games in the current season. He was initially drafted by Collingwood with pick 14 in the 2019 Mid-Season Rookie Draft and has made notable appearances in seven finals throughout his career.

On the other hand, Lukosius was a high-profile draft pick for the SUNS, selected second overall in the 2018 national draft. After six seasons and 116 games with the club, he embarks on a new chapter with Port Adelaide. Atkins joined the SUNS from Adelaide at the end of the 2020 season, contributing to 37 games during his four years with the team.
