Founded in 1994, the Fremantle Football Club has become a prominent team in the Australian Football League (AFL). Known as the ‘Freo Dockers,’ the club has built a strong reputation over the years. The men’s team, led by head coach Justin Longmuir and captained by Alex Pearce, plays its home games at the impressive Optus Stadium in Perth, Western Australia, which seats 60,000 fans. The club’s rich history and passionate fanbase have helped solidify Fremantle’s place in the AFL.

In addition to its men’s team, Fremantle has been a key player in the AFL Women’s (AFLW) league since its inception in 2017. The women’s team, coached by Lisa Webb and captained by Ange Stannett, competes at the historic Fremantle Oval, a venue that has been a significant part of the city’s football culture. The AFLW team continues to grow and establish itself as a force within the league.

Over the years, the Freo Dockers have boasted several standout players. Matthew Pavlich, a six-time All-Australian and nine-year captain, is among the club’s most iconic figures. Other notable players include David Mundy, who holds the record for most games played, former ruckman Aaron Sandilands, and Nat Fyfe, a dual Brownlow Medalist and three-time Doig Medallist. One of the men’s team’s defining moments came in 2013, when they reached the Grand Final, facing off against Hawthorn, marking a historic achievement for the club.

The women’s side has also had its share of remarkable talent. Kiara Bowers has been a standout player, earning three Fairest and Best awards and being named the league’s Best and Fairest in 2021. Her contributions have made her a central figure in the AFLW and a key asset for Fremantle’s pursuit of success in the competition.

Looking forward, the Fremantle Football Club has set its sights on even greater accomplishments. In 2021, the club introduced a bold Strategic Plan with the ambitious goal of securing its first AFL and AFLW premierships by 2025. This plan outlines the club’s determination to achieve new heights and build on its strong foundation, promising an exciting future for players and fans alike.
