Fremantle and West Coast's pride designs

Fremantle has unveiled an exciting new jumper design for the upcoming AFLW pride round, emphasizing the theme of connection. This marks the fourth year the Dockers have created a pride jumper, with the latest design crafted by former graphic designer Anna Palma in collaboration with Fremantle’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee (DE&I). The design brings to life the iconic Fremantle anchor through a vibrant dot matrix, symbolizing the growing ties within the community.

Amber Vandam, coordinator for the Purple Hands Foundation, highlighted the significance of pride in fostering unity. “Pride embodies the essence of the LGBTQIA+ community, but it also calls on everyone to come together to champion acceptance, equality, and love,” Vandam stated. She elaborated on how the design reflects interconnectedness, comparing it to a web or puzzle where every individual contributes to the bigger picture. The DE&I committee emphasized the anchor’s importance as a symbol that unites everyone, celebrating the diversity that makes the club special.

Fremantle will debut this new jumper during their home game against Carlton on October 12. This initiative follows the West Coast Eagles’ recent reveal of their own pride jumper, which they will wear in their upcoming matches against Port Adelaide and Hawthorn. The Eagles’ design features their traditional Eagle logo surrounded by rainbow-colored feathers, which has received enthusiastic support from players like star forward Ella Roberts.

“I’m thrilled with this year’s Pride guernsey,” Roberts expressed. “The design is fantastic, and I love the incorporation of the feathers. I can’t wait to wear it during rounds six and seven.” Vice-captain Bella Lewis echoed these sentiments, underscoring the significance of Pride round as a moment for everyone to unite and celebrate their shared values.

Both clubs are not just showcasing their unique designs but also promoting a broader message of inclusion and community support. These jumpers serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of standing together in solidarity and celebrating diversity within Australian Rules football.
