Aine Tighe AFLW for Fremantle Dockers

Fremantle Dockers have faced a tough setback as star forward Aine Tighe will be sidelined for the remainder of the AFLW season due to a ruptured ACL. This injury comes after a strong start to the season, raising concerns about the team’s championship aspirations.

The injury occurred early in the game against the Demons, where Tighe was forced to leave the field after attempting to change direction. Though she did not return to the match, Tighe was seen on the sidelines and underwent scans immediately after the game, confirming the severity of her condition.

Fremantle’s AFLW head, Claire Heffernan, expressed deep regret over Tighe’s situation, acknowledging her vital role as both a player and a leader. Heffernan emphasized the club’s commitment to supporting Tighe during her recovery journey, stating, “We have no doubt Aine will use every ounce of her determination to attack her rehabilitation with gusto.”

At 32, Tighe has been a prominent scoring asset for Fremantle, having scored four goals in the season opener against Essendon and adding another crucial goal in a recent victory over Port Adelaide. This injury is particularly challenging for Tighe, who has previously experienced two ruptures of her left ACL since joining the Dockers from Gaelic football in 2020.

Coach Lisa Webb praised Tighe’s leadership skills during her post-match comments, highlighting her focus and positive attitude even after her injury. Tighe’s contributions to the team have been significant since her debut in 2022, as she has consistently been a leading scorer, tallying 28 goals throughout her career.

With Tighe out for the season, the Dockers will rely on players like Serena Gibbs and Ariana Hetherington to step up as key forwards, as they navigate the challenges ahead in their quest for the championship.
