Elliott Himmelberg, the tall forward from the Adelaide Crows, is increasingly likely to make a move to the Gold Coast Suns. This development comes as the Queensland-based team has shown significant interest in acquiring him during the off-season. Himmelberg, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent, has not been offered a contract extension by Adelaide and is currently evaluating his options for the 2025 season.

The possibility of Himmelberg joining the Suns was initially hinted at towards the end of last year. After expressing his desire to reunite with his brother Harry at GWS Giants, it seems he might now be heading to the Gold Coast. According to Tom Morris from 9 News, a deal between Himmelberg and the Suns appears to be “highly likely.” His request to leave Adelaide, which was made known last October, underscores his ambition to secure a more prominent role in another team.

Himmelberg’s desire to explore new opportunities was evident when he sought to play alongside his brother Harry. He openly discussed the appeal of joining the Giants on SEN Breakfast, reflecting on how fulfilling it would be to share a field with his sibling. Despite this, Himmelberg’s priority has been to find a club where he can play more regularly, as highlighted by his recent comments on his AFL career.

In the 2024 season, Himmelberg participated in nine senior games, surpassing the 50-game milestone. Despite his efforts, he has struggled to secure a consistent role in Adelaide’s lineup, often competing for the key forward spot with players like Taylor Walker, Darcy Fogarty, and Riley Thilthorpe. His most notable season was in 2022, when he scored 14 goals across 11 matches.

As Taylor Walker approaches the end of his career, Himmelberg might find a more stable position with the Suns, potentially stepping into a key forward role. However, the competition remains fierce with emerging talent like Jed Walter, who is expected to take up a significant forward role in the near future. Himmelberg’s stature and experience make him an intriguing prospect as player movement picks up this off-season.
